Do I need to get a police check to apply for cleaning jobs?
Why having a Police check is useful for Commercial Cleaning jobs?
As a commercial cleaner, you may be asked to clean in business premises that hold sensitive information, you could work in an environment with vulnerable people, like a care home or hospital or young children, like a school or even business premises that have cash on-site, like pubs & restaurants.
As part of your responsibilities as a commercial cleaner, you may be a key holder and have alarm access codes for your clients.
Getting a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, or a police check adds to your credibility and gives the person for whom you are cleaning more confidence in giving you access to their business premises.
You only need to get one basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate; and use this for multiple clients. Although, technically, there isn’t an end date for a police check we do recommend getting your basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check updated every 18mths – 3yrs.
You can apply online for a police check.
