Introducing Nova Security Systems, whom have kindly agreed to write a guest blog post for Workplace Cleaning Solutions.
Why are keyholders so important?
If you are the owner or manager of a business with a Monitored Intruder Alarm System, you will no doubt have nominated key holders who are called upon to attend the premises upon an alarm activation.
It is important that these nominated people ideally live within 20 minutes of the premises, and are trustworthy and reliable; you should also list these people in order of priority. One problem that we as a security company come across a lot is where companies have a staff change and forget to change there keyholder information, so it is very important that we are made aware of any changes.
As a keyholder the 3 most important things to remember are:
- An opening key holder must unlock the doors, inspect the property, deactivate the security system and turn on any indoor or outdoor lights. Closing key holders perform the same process in reverse, activating the security system and making sure that the premises is secure and locked with no customers or employees remaining inside.
- Key holders are responsible for protecting the keys they use 24 hours a day. Because the key holder also needs to know the security code for the alarm, it’s important that the key holder never keep the code in the same place as the keys. This means that even if someone steals the building keys, it will only represent a partial security breach since the potential thief would still have to get past the alarm system.
- Because they can reset the alarm system, key holders are usually entrusted as emergency contacts for local police or a private security firm that monitors the property. In the event of an alarm activation or suspected security breach, one of the key holders must go to the retail location to deactivate the alarm and ensure that the store is safe, before locking up once again.
Do you have outsourced personnel such as Cleaners ; if so are they aware of your security procedures and protocols and are your security company aware of the hours worked by your outsourced personnel, so that the monitoring company can be notified, this would then stop any unwanted alarm activations.
At Nova Security Systems we can advise and guide you through any electronic security issues, whether it be Intruder Alarm Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, CCTV or Access Control we are here to help you.
